Well, my break turned out to be a little longer than expected. What can I say, it's a busy time of year! I did manage to complete one artwork in the past few weeks, so here it is. It's an intaglio-printed collagraph hand-colored with India ink. The print is based on a drawing I did a few years ago. In my first year of grad school, I had to find a place to live very quickly after most people had already made their housing arrangements. I moved into a house with 4 guys I did not know (one was a friend-of-a-friend), and to make a long story short, one of those guys is my husband Christian! While I lived there, my "bedroom" was the attic. Because I was so high up, when I did drawings from my imagination, I envisioned everything from a bird's-eye view. I did a quick drawing in my sketchbook of this lovely couple and always wanted to do something with it. I'm currently in a mode of experimenting with the printmaking techniques I can do at home (non-toxic and no need for equipment I don't have) to see what feels right. The collagraph plate is just lines and brushstrokes in acrylic medium on a piece of matte board. I think I will try layers of paper and other materials for more depth next time.
